Right now, this site sets no cookies at all

Not one. There is no analytics, no advertising, no tag manager and no third-party script of any kind. Nothing here needs a consent banner, because there is nothing to consent to. You can verify that in your browser's developer tools: open the Application or Storage panel on any page and the cookie list will be empty.

What we store instead, and where

Tools that remember your work — your bibliography, your course list, your timer history, your draft — use local storage, which is not a cookie. Local storage is never attached to a network request, so unlike a cookie it is not sent to us or to anyone else. It stays in the browser you typed it in. Clearing your browsing data clears it, and it does not follow you to another device.

The citation generator can also look a source up by DOI or ISBN. That is the one moment anything leaves your browser, it happens only when you press the button, and what is sent is the identifier alone — never your title, your notes or your saved list. No cookie is set by that request.

What will change when advertising is introduced

This site is intended to be supported by advertising, and honesty about the plan is part of the policy. When ads are introduced, advertising cookies will be involved, and in the UK and the EEA those require your prior consent under PECR and the UK GDPR. At that point a consent banner will appear before any advertising cookie is set, this page will be updated to name the partners, and a way to change or withdraw your choice will be added to the footer.

Until that happens there is deliberately no banner, because a consent request for cookies that do not exist is theatre rather than compliance.

Blocking cookies yourself

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings at any time. Doing so will not affect anything here, since the tools rely on local storage rather than cookies — though blocking storage entirely will stop your work being remembered between visits.
