Privacy Policy

The short version
We do not ask you to create an account and we do not collect your name or email. Work you save in a tool stays in your own browser.
Who is responsible for this site
StudyKit (studytoolkit.net) is run by an individual publisher in the United Kingdom, who is the data controller for the limited processing described below. You can reach us at hello@studytoolkit.net about anything on this page, including a request to exercise any of the rights set out at the end.
Data stored in your browser
Tools such as the citation generator save your work using your browser’s local storage. This never leaves your device and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser data removes it permanently, so export anything you need to keep.
Analytics
At present we collect no usage statistics of any kind. There is no analytics script on this site, so we cannot tell you how many people visited a page or which tools are most used — we genuinely do not know.
Server logs
To be precise rather than merely reassuring: this site is served by a hosting provider which, like every web host, records standard request logs including your IP address, the page requested and your browser’s user-agent string. That happens at the network level before any of our code runs, and it is necessary for the site to be delivered to you at all. We do not use those logs for analytics, we do not combine them with anything else, and we do not build profiles from them.
Looking up a citation
The citation generator can fetch source details for you. It does this only when you press Look up — never while you type. When you do, the DOI or ISBN you entered is sent to Crossref (for a DOI) or OpenLibrary (for an ISBN), both of which are in the United States. Those services will see your IP address, as any website you visit would. Nothing else is sent: not your title, not your notes, not your saved bibliography. If you would rather nothing left your browser at all, simply do not use the button and type the details in instead — every field can be filled by hand.
Advertising and cookies
There is currently no advertising on this site and no cookies are set. The intention is to fund the site with advertising, and when that happens advertising partners will set cookies. If you are in the UK or the EEA you will be asked for consent before any advertising or analytics cookie is set, and a way to change or withdraw that choice will be added to the footer at the same time. The cookie policy sets out exactly what is stored today.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you have the right to access, correct or erase personal data we hold, to object to processing, and to complain to a supervisory authority such as the UK Information Commissioner’s Office. Because we do not hold accounts, in practice most data subject to these rights is on your own device.
Contact
Questions about privacy, or a request to exercise any of the rights above, can be sent to hello@studytoolkit.net or through our contact page. If you are not satisfied with our response you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
